Who is this help guide for?
This help guide is for graphic designers creating branded background images and for owners, managers, and administrators uploading those graphics to the Chexology Dashboard.
Please note: This feature is only available in Chexology Expert and Enterprise Editions.
Step 1: Download the appropriate template
- Select your template below based on the model iPad you have.
- If you're not sure which iPad you are using, find out in Settings> General> Model Name.
- If the iPad has not been delivered to you, you may be able to find the model number on your invoice. If not, please contact us at help@chexology.com.
- The Illustrator template contains all three aspect ratios so make sure to work on the correct one.

Step 2: Create the design
Important: Only add text in the safe areas.
Keep the green areas free of text, complex graphics, and visual elements with large differences in brightness and contrast. This will make sure that the user interface elements (search bar, settings icon, and action list) are easily visible.
- When you create your design, we recommend a simple and elegant approach with minimal visual clutter.
- We also recommend adding the text “coat check” and a call-to-action instructing guests what to do, such as "please tap to begin."
- Export your final image as a high quality JPEG or PNG file under 5 MB.
Below are some branding examples showing respect for the “safe” area:
Here are the same finalized branding examples before being added to the app:
This is what they look like after being added to the app with the Chexology user interface automatically added to them:
Note: If your design looks squished or stretched, double-check the dimensions of the image and make sure you used the correct aspect ratio for your iPad.
Step 3: Upload the image
- Log in to the Dashboard.
- Select the desired location if you have more than one.
- Click Branding in the sidebar. You will see a virtual iPad with the current branding.
- Click Change Image.
- Click Choose File and select the JPEG or PNG provided by your designer.
- Click Save. The virtual iPad should update to show your branded design.
- The design will be uploaded to all iPads for this location.
- You can delete or change the image as you see fit.
Step 4: Check the kiosk
It may take 10 or more seconds for the app to finish uploading the branding image. It may take longer on slower connections, but if it takes more than a minute, reload the portal and try again.
Please note: In order for custom branding to be updated on any given iPad, it must be connected to the internet.
